Field Guide – A Return to Tactile Design

Graphic design has entered an era of sterility, shaped by the dominance of digital tools and machine-like precision. In contrast, this field guide challenges contemporary standards by advocating for a return to analog methods—infused with only minimal digital intervention.

All graphic elements in this project were created using a modified drypoint printing process, lending the work a tactile, imperfect, and human quality. Typography remains the sole digital element, used deliberately to create a clear visual contrast. This guide serves as both a critique of modern design’s overly polished aesthetic and a proposal for rediscovering the expressive power of physical mark-making.
